Bunion pads cushion the bony bump, reduce shoe pressure, and help protect irritated skin. Some also gently reposition the big toe to improve alignment and reduce friction between toes.

If your problem is… Best choice Why Shoe rubbing on bunion Gel shield Cushions and disperses friction Toe drifting toward 2nd toe Spacer Encourages straighter alignment Pain directly on bump Felt U-pad Offloads pressure from sore spot Both bump + toe crowding Shield + spacer combo Protects + realigns Outer foot bunionette Bunionette guard Shields lateral pressure -
Yes. Bunionette guards and lateral cushions are designed specifically to absorb pressure along the outer foot and protect that bony prominence

Spacers gently separate the big toe from the second toe in the case of a regular bunion or 5th toe from 4th toe in a bunionette encouraging a more natural position. When the toe sits straighter: • joint motion improves • pressure shifts off the bunion bump • friction between toes decreases Better alignment = less mechanical stress.

No. Pads relieve symptoms and protect tissue but do not remove the bony deformity/ bunion or bunionette. They are best used to: • decrease pain • prevent irritation • slow worsening from shoe pressure • improve comfort during walking

Dr. Gaffney’s clinician-curated assortment includes options designed for different causes of bunion pain: • Gel bunion shields — cushion and protect the bunion bump • Spacer + shield combos — protect the bump while aligning the toe • Toe spacers (gel or foam) — reposition toes to reduce joint stress • Adhesive felt U-pads — offload pressure away from the bunion • Bunionette guards — protect little-toe bunions

Seek medical guidance from your doctor first if you have: • diabetes • neuropathy ( numbness tingling of feet) • poor circulation • fragile skin These conditions increase risk of skin injury from devices that go around the toe. . Also see your foot doctor if you are having pain first.

Most gel-based pads, shields, and spacers are washable and reusable. Adhesive felt pads are usually single-use
